So here's my training blog. I'll be using this blog to report on my triathlon training. I've wanted to write a blog for years, but never got around to it. I've also wanted to be a triathlete for a long time, and despite my best (worst) efforts to avoid the hard work involved in training for triathlon, I have succeeded at that endeavor. Combining my training efforts could be a good synergy.
My triathlon success has been modest, but I'm not so modest about reporting on that success. I'm not a particularly disciplined guy, but setting triathlon goals for myself and meeting the training expectations to achieve those goals has helped me to be a more focused person, and I think this carries as well to other aspects of my life - family, work, and faith. Part of my success stems from telling other people about my goals. When I tell people I'm planning to do a half-Ironman-distance triathlon, I set up compelling expectations for myself. I recognize that I'm the primary recipient of the benefits of triathlon, but somehow "do it for myself" is not as motivating to me as impressing others that I can do something unexpected for a fat old man. That's shallow, but if it works, I'll use it!

Hey SCARTERL,
ReplyDeleteYou are a better man than I am! I can only run out to get bread and milk, swim in my stressful thoughts, and bike around the block. Keep setting those goals, market them to your family and friends however best they fit to keep you moving forward, and celebrate your successes!
I don't know about that "fat old man" description. You impress the hell out of me, and, besides, you're cute as the dickens!
